We went as day trippers, arriving in Japan town just as the Cherry Blossom Festival was in full-bloom. The weather, which was predicted to be grey and gloomy, went all out for our visit, showering us in blue skies, a warm breeze and bright sunshine. Not a cloud in the sky, no sign of the famous Franciscan fog. It was quite the magical day for the four of us: my boyfriend D, his strapping young teen-aged son & said son's best friend, and we were on the hunt for J*pop toys, magazines and anything delicious we could pop into our mouths. Udon. Soba. Mochi. Gelato.
But how do you describe these wonders when no Japan-town shop allows you to take pictures of their goodies? Can I really describe the incredible candy shop with ceiling to floor shelves stacked with beautifully packaged gift boxes of every delicious import imaginable from the Land of the Rising Sun? Can you really get a glimpse of the incredible toys, the freshest of fashion magazines, the delectable frocks, all on a mission to make one fall in love with all thing Nippon? Crazy, colorful toys/candies/eateries/records/books/noodles/bakeries/tea houses/antiques/crafts/kiosks, all vying for the tourist's attention, and mere English can not convey the glory of this perfect day of discovery.
