outfit post: Cherry on top

Do you remember the little fascinator I wore in my last outfit post, the little black hat with a vintage silk white rose? Refresh your memory here. Well, I was treated a a lovely gift from the maker, a certain Dr. Stacy D'Andre. Dr. D'Andre is an oncologist by trade, but is a vintage enthusiast and has the hobby of hand-making beautiful hats reusing vintage materials. The gift was a superb little topper made with blue & white vintage fabric, white netting and a delicious looking red cherry ornament on top.

I couldn't wait to wear it & found the perfect occasion to do so, at last week-end's Designing Dreams fashion show at the Memorial Auditorium. While all the lovely ladies were dressed to the nines in the prerequisite parlor tans, stilettos, super long hair and very short dresses, I was dolled up like an English school-marm gone amok in my floral frock, vintage white Victoriana boots, shrunken school-boy jacket (not shown) and lovely little cherry-topped topper.

  "it just seems my flavor
comes with a bit of a curl."

Here, take a looksie:

Apples:

Oranges:
It was quite the fashionable crowd. Beautiful really. Cosmospolitans.  And I could tell I didn't QUITE fit in. A bit left off center. It just seems my flavor comes with a bit of a curl.  Apples and oranges really. Sticky like sore thumbs and your humble narrator is definitely not your typical Sac-town fashionista.

The Citizen Style vs. Sac-town Ladies' Style:
Me: Farmer tan.
The ladies: Cultivated color.
Me: Self-inflicted crew cut.
Ladies: Long, well groomed tresses of ungodly proportions.
Me: Chubby in chintz.
Sactownistas: Svelte in jewel-toned, over-sized designer silk micro-dresses.
Me: Tree-trunk stumps, knobby and scarred.
Sacramento's finest: Killer legs that stretch into next week.
Me: Battered vintage booties.
Ladies who lunch: This latest in stilettos.

The lovely in photo #1 and 3 had the brightest, warmest smile you could possibly meet, which is always in  fashion. Her name is Lacey Faris & she is the Couture Connection project manager for the Designing Dreams fashion show.  I'd like to thank her and the mysterious vixen in pink for letting me take their pictures.

  14. I love your choice of hat! I'm so glad that you wore something different and interesting. The other girls look lovely, but I'm not sure if they are as intriguing and that's kind of what I love about fashion.

  16. yep, that's it. the best thing about fashion is applying your unique stamp on what you wear. making everyone express it differently, who they are by how they dress.
