Observe the charming drawstring bag made out of a Union Jack linen dishcloth. This was a b*day gift from my friend Kris Laskey many years ago. Kris Laskey is the genius behind the Sac-town label, BUTT UGLY which you may know is a favorite of mine.
Everything else is a hack job, literally. I've cut up every article of clothing that I'm wearing and have altered it in some way. I love my Ringer-T shrug. It's been cut from a ringer T-shirt and hemmed, and makes a great little summer addition when you need light layering. The navy/grey striped top used to be a tank, but is now a halter. And the shorts freshly sawed at this morning, have been distressed and torn while watching Season 3 of Design Star on hulu.com. I ripped and shredded and sewed buttons on my jeans shorts, giving them a bit more character.
Enjoying the end of summer and squeezing in one more red, white & blue outfit before the transition into Fall. It's Labor Day week-end. Time to honor the labor movement and celebrate the contributions of the working class of Americans. I am a working class American and a proud Union member.
Happy Labor Day, peoples. See you Tuesday.
That bag is amazing. Union jack prints always do good.

ReplyDeleteLee, do you have Target stores in Oz? I got these for 12.99, and you should too!
Natale Eve, sharp scissors are all you need. Oh yeah, and some T-shirts.
Thanks, Chico.
xoxo. back at ya, Jemina.
You are making me want to sew. I haven't wanted to sew in years and years and years, ever since I made the mistake of trying to make curtains out of some polyester chiffon (nasty stuff on the machine.)
ReplyDeleteLove the bag! Enjoy your labor day weekend!
Heather, two of my t-shirt cardigans involved no sewing whatsoever. Just a nice T-shirt, a sharp pair of scissora and a steady hand to get you a fun new shrug for Fall.
ReplyDeletethat bag is too cute! I want it! such an awesome gift =P
ReplyDeleteEek! You just cut! You DO need a steady hand for that. I'll think about it for sure...
ReplyDeleteThis look is so amazing. I love this color combination and I love the stripes.

Thank you Sarah, I just checked out your awesome blog and see that we both share a love for the red, white and blue! xo.
ReplyDelete@ Heather: AND sharp scissors! With a super sharp pair, you can leave almost jersey knit unfinished. Or pinking shears.
