COME HERE KITTY-KITTY: One trend I am NOT tired of yet is the resurgence of the animal print. I have gone dotty over spotty. And it seems I am not the only one. This winter, I have received more compliments on my vintage 1960's fun fur cheetah print sports coat (see photo below) than I have in the 5 years I have owned it. And I've been buying up little bits and pieces of cat prints: a vintage slip, a vintage pill box hat (see photo above), various summer shoes, and a scarf. What I really want is a pair of leopard print booties, like the ones you can get over at Jeff Silverman shoes (see sidebar). I want to create a custom pair, using their special technology to design a pair of shoes just for me. A few clicks and I get to create a pair of shoes, boots, or a handbag to my personal fancy. And I fancy a big cat.
I wouldn't mind sporting this amazing vintage leopard print cape like the one that sold at Nickie Frye's Etsy shop not that long ago. While the cape has already found a home, her shop is filled with choice tidbits, including a few fun animal prints to lust over. Another Nor-Cal girl (she's from San Francisico), her blog is quickly becoming one of my must-reads. You can check out her blog by clicking here.
The animal print trend shows no sign of slowing down. I predict: not only will I be galavanting around in a pair a big kitty booties this winter, but I'll still be sporting all kinds of primitive come spring. What's your big game flavor? Leopard, Tiger, Cheetah?

ReplyDeleteAnimal prints has always been on and off trends.

I will never, ever, ever get over my love of leopard! Hmm, maybe that's why my boyfriend calls me "kitty" ?? Whatever the case, even when leopard print *isnt* in all of the shops, it'll still be trendy. It's one of those timeless prints, don't you think? (If not, I don't care, I'm wearing it forever anyway!) Love your catty items!

p.s. My baby brother gave me a pair of leopard elbow length gloves for Christmas. They are so fancy.
Your hat is fabulous.
the hat look really cool on you
ReplyDeleteim wearing ap today too
i love the cape!!
Hey thanks for plugging my shop! :D
ReplyDeleteYour hat is spectacular. No wonder you get compliments on it. I do think leopard (cheetah?) print is timeless. It's all about the fabrication for me. If it's a cheap, ghastly fabric then I'll pass, but if it's done in a good quality fabric you can't go wrong.
And Fritzi Marie's comment about the leopard elbow length gloves is making me green with envy. Those sound AWESOME.
Thanks again for the love! We have to meet up one of these days. xoxo
I like animal print in small doses, like an accent piece. This, however, looks WONDERFUL on you! Your little pill box hat is just a piece of millenery (sp?) perfection! ~Serene
ReplyDeleteI love animal prints! And I am loving that hat!! MEOW!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Serene. Animal print is best served up in small meaningful doses. Like the full length gloves mentioned by Fritzi Marie. (Good to know I wasn't the only one green with envy on hearing about those.)
ReplyDeleteAlthough an animal print coat, my preference cheetah, or zebra is classy, classic and distinctive. NEVER NEVER out of style.
I like to say that leopard print is the polka dot of the animal kingdom. Quote me people; that one is a chestnut!
Meow baby, meow!
ReplyDeleteI've loved leopard print since I was a kid and I still get excited when I see it in fashion. Like you I buy a few pieces. My favorite this time around is my leopard vinyl bag from Target and leopard flats from Nine West. Not as exciting and vintage as yours but I do have a pretty fab vintage leopard clutch somewhere.
ReplyDeleteLove,

vintage cluuuutch. you just made me whimper. Ah, ballet shoes are so perf for the animal print. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree I love animal print. Your coat is awesome. The pill box hat is so unique, no one else is wearing it. I have a pair of pointy toe zebra print flats that are brown, and beige. I'm addicted to wearing them.

I immediately recognized where the picture was taken, (Academy of Science), I was just there a few months ago for my birthday.
ReplyDeleteI had Stuart Weitzman ankle boots with a giraffe pattern to die for years ago that I wore until they started resembling one scrappy animal:(
Leopard is my fave, but I like me all kinds of kitties!
I think a bit of animal print will always be on trend. Even if it's not - who cares, you rock it! I LOVE your coat (and especially the photo of you and teh cheetah. Classic.)
ReplyDeleteAlso - those Jeff Silverman booties are perfect! I've never used his site before, I may have to check it out.
Oo I love animal prints! leopard is my favourite, so this is a great post :) You look great, animal print suits you well!
