Forget Matchy-Matchy, Just Wear What You Love

This is probably the last of my bare legs you'll be seeing for a while- it is now officially cooler Fall weather here in Sactown. I wore this outfit last week, just as the weather was losing its summer feel, but still had enough heat to run around sans tights, socks or leggings. But I am eagerly layering up. Silk snake print top (vintage Halston III) shopped from my own shop at Fringe. Over it is my weirdly charmingly tribal '70's sweater, and paired with my dark denim Ralph Lauren shorts. Nothing matches, and somehow, it all works. I think the key element was neutral on neutral and amped up prints in subtle tones. I'm loving my Freestyle leopard shooties, and the Iris Apfel styled yellow round sunglasses I recently scored at Cuff's.

There's still time to enter the Karina Dress give-away! Contest ends November 1st and the winner will be announced December 2nd. So...whatcha waiting for? Click HERE to enter for a chance to win.

Layered Looks: Jacket, Sweater and Silk Tee offer up layered warmth for a California November

A big thank-you to all the shoppers who came out last week and shopped Fringe for Black Friday and Small Business Saturday- THANK-YOU Because of people like you who choose to support small businesses, people like me can aim for their dreams of eeking out a living in a creative, sustainable life. There's still loads of great winter woolens, fabulous frocks and snuggly coats at Fringe so if you're in the neighborhood, be sure to stop by and shop!
Mixing the Match: Leopard, Snake, Paisley and Tribal all mashed together for a fun and quirky outfit.

  2. I agree completely! I happen to have a bit of a "matchy matchy" style, but in the last couple years have just put things together a bit more changing it up a bit! I was just thinking this morning about how warm it is in LA LA Land...80 today where I am...so wintery! ;)

  7. Looove that blouse!! It does go well with the sweater. I'm still learning and practicing how to wear seemingly non-matching things together because my impulse when dressing is to just match everything. I think I get that from my mother, lol!

  11. Lucky lady! I look like a crazy person running around town with bare legs. Our highs are only in the 40s but I just am not a fan of tights. :) I think this is one of those outfits that goes together intuitively. You just know it works without any fashion rules dictating it so.

  13. Amazing you can still do the bare legs! We are in tights or knee high territory here in the Bay Area. Totally love the jungle action with snake skin top vs. leopard shooties!

  15. Bare-legged weather ended for me in October, though I'm not one to bare mine; the sun and I are not friends.

Anyway, I love your snakey top and your leopard wedges! And I'm happy to hear Small Business Saturday was a success for you! Create and sustain, sustain and create!

  16. When you're excited for cooler weather it's a lot less painful! We had shorts weather here early on Thanksgiving morning and I was super happy. Obviously, I'm not ready for winter. Hehe.

Very fun outfit. My mother made me terrified of not matching most things but I can definitely see the appeal of mixing prints and such. It always looks so fun, especially when you do it. :)

  18. Amen sister!!!! Why oh why does matchy-matchy feel like being on a hamster wheel? Coz it is!!!! A loooooong time ago a boutique owner was selling me a dress and trying to get me to buy matchy-matchy bag, shoes, ring. ***Shudder***. Feck me if animal print top and shoes with tribal sweater, yellow sunnies and cloche hat isn't making me squirm with ecstacy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh no, I'll be sad to see your stems go ... maybe tights with shorts? You ROCK shorts girly!!! And you rock my world - keep up with no-matchy-matchy hon!!!! Baci xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

  22. I'd like to wear what I love but unfortunately the clash of horrific proportions forces me to go back to some kind of matching sensibleness.
You however can pull it off well! xx
