Sometimes the best accessories aren't the ones you wear. They are the company you keep.
I wasn't feeling particularly stylish that day- j'eggings, and a T-shirt that started out cute, but due to the fact it's made out of a cheap poly fabric, is quickly losing its shape and luster at every wash. My loafers, a brand new white leather vintage score from my neighborhood Goodwill were small comfort, as I think they make me look a bit uh, pedestrian, which is fine in real life but will it ever make the front page of Chictopia? Uh. NO.
I felt neither stylish or attractive. My middle-age body seems to gain more belly and hips every time I hit a juice bar, which I have been doing a bit too much lately, truth be told. I might have to actually (gasp) come up with some sort of fitness plan. For the first time ever. At age 47. Cuz these j'eggings aren't going to slim themselves. Yeah, waa-waa, first world problems.
What did perk up my day, aside from my amaze-ballz statement necklace (a 1980's hand-made necklace in the art style ala Memphis) was the sweet little companion who could rival the best top model, and can NOT take a bad picture. I swear, the little creature POSES for the camera, and he does so much better than I do. This little puggle is a sweetheart, and he reminded me that life isn't about the fancy pair of shoes that you fancy, but about where you're going in those fancy shoes. Maybe that's not quite it- it's more like this: sometimes the best accessories aren't the ones you wear. They are the company you keep.
Wishing you all a bright and cheerful Monday!

That little fellow is so cute companion :) Wise words, I really should remember that it's really the company what is the best accessory. (I spend too much time thinkin about what scarf or jewellery I wear... :D)
ReplyDeleteThat is the cutest outfit - and I have to agree that sweet little guy sure does take a great picture.
ReplyDeleteoooh! I especially love your white loafers and necklace. And, I can never pass up a little face like that. snugglefest!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sara, Beryl and Kerry. Pumpkin, I miss youuuu!
ReplyDelete"The best accessories aren't the ones you wear. They are the company you keep." Now, those are words to live by, you inspiring woman! You've got a killer figure and that outfit shows it off a treat and the canine companion is a sweetheart! xxx
ReplyDeleteVery true Bella. And your company is truly stunning. Still I also like your fun casual outfit. Especially your necklace. Wow!
ReplyDeleteAaaw, he's cute! love the outfit though too. And I think your legs look great in the jeggings. Mine were far far worse even pre pregnancy, and I am currently embracing leggings in a big way!
ReplyDeleteYou definitely have great gams and you still kick it in this outfit that doesn't make you feel front page. Looking that good when you feel meh is pretty freaking fantastic! That's the best ever puggle. Awesome neck piece.
ReplyDeleteNever a truer word has been said. And your companion here is so sweet.
ReplyDeleteX x
You are so beautiful!!Your figure rocks those skinny jeans and the whole outfit is great!! The aztec print is one of my seasonal favourite and the whole boho vibe is truly inspiring especially worn with such an artpiece at your neck!
ReplyDeleteLove
My daughter Rebecca also says that it is not what you wear, but WHO you are.
ReplyDeleteLoving you in the distance in the knowledge that we will meet one day soon.

Great pictures your outfit is lovely, such a sweet dog :)
ReplyDeleteWaaaah...the dog! I die of cuteness!. BTW, if you're looking for a fitness plan that's actually fun, I thoroughly recommend pole fitness. It's the only fitness I tried that is keeping me entertained and keeping me actually attending the classes. Heck, I'm even installing pole at my home. That's how good it is. I took it up at the ripe old age of 38 and the shizzle I can do on it now amazes me. :D
ReplyDeleteChictopia? Is that a poultry site? You look amazing! I have students in their late teens/early 20's who should look as good as you do. Walking is free and easy to do.
ReplyDeleteLove your companion! ADORABLE!
ReplyDeleteAnd, I'm not sure what you're talking about b/c I LOVE this casual outfit SO much! It's perfect form head to toe. You look fantastic, imo!!
Bella, I think you are beautiful, and am jealous of your curves. In those pics the skinny jeans look great, and that amazing necklace is perfect.
ReplyDeleteBut I have to admit when I don't feel beautiful, I take great comfort in knowing my four-leggeds like me just the way I am.
I, too, am going to have to come up with some regular exercise program. As I age, I worry about being a frail old lady, and I know I have some control over how strong my bones and muscles will be.
Good jewelry redeems any outfit. And this casual look isn't bad, just what we throw on for an ordinary day. Your doggie steals the show, though!
ReplyDeleteNot sure you could ever really look pedestrian, the outfit is great and the necklace is rather wonderful. Most of all I want to steal that puggle
ReplyDeleteCute dog , sometimes the simple casual is the best.. With a twist ! This middelage body feels the same .. But Ido go to the gym - booth body and soul feels much better then !
ReplyDeleteCould not agree more about the four-legged companions. And how they always love us, whatever we're wearing : > I think you look very cool in your jeggings and white loafs. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday. xoxoxox
ReplyDeleteNecklace is awesome, as is the message of this post! It's true that while those of us in our blogger circle love to dress up, it is as much about where we're going, what we're doing, and who we're doing it with, and a perky pooch is a marvelous accessorie.
ReplyDeleteOk....your photo companiion is awfully cute!! <3
ReplyDeleteAnd I absolutely dig your necklace! Actually, I had once done a project on Memphis art during college and have been in love with the art form ever since! :)
You are so right, the dog is for certain top model material!! I love this photograph. Framing material:)
ReplyDeletePeace and love,
Joanna

love your casual outfit and the details that make it cool, specially the pretty necklace, and also love that it's a Real Life outfit with a charming companion!
ReplyDeletebesos & naturalidad
You look great as everyone has testified. But I do know what you mean. The older I get, the more weight I've gained. When I recall how great I looked previously and remember that I was discontented with my body shape/size then - it's just plain sad. Appreciate you now is key.
ReplyDeleteI don't know that I've ever seen you in such a casual look, but I like it on you! Print of your shirt and the loafers are super cool.
ReplyDeleteYou may be critical of this look, but I think it looks fab! That necklace is fabulous, but I must admit the best accessory is the pug. Yep, doggies do know how to pose. My Harry is quite the poser when he choses to do so. Lately, he is more interested in chasing flies.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing my blogger friends in their everyday clothes and those white loafers are very cool. As for the weight I think your jeans look great on you, and although it is a first world problem, your health is not something to take for granted. We are incredibly blessed to live in a place where food shortages and famine are a thing of the past, but that doesn't make taking care of yourself any less important. So good for you for hitting the gym!
ReplyDeleteAww, what a cute dog! I shy away from "accessory" specifically after seeing all the Paris Hilton-wannabes with their impulse breeder puppies but agree with your sentiment 1,000%!
ReplyDeleteI hear you on the fitness plan. I didn't start doing anything until I hit 37 and that was only because I didn't have the strength I needed to be able to ride my bike for commuting purposes. Now I've done two 5k races and I'm about to do my second 10k...and I just hired a personal trainer. It's not so bad - I think I just had to get started.
I love the white loafers and have wanted a pair for a while.
I'm taken by those amazing white loafers, what a great find! Lovely casual look on you Bella. :) Hope your Monday was joyful.
ReplyDeleteLove the necklace...but I do agree that the company we keep make for our best style!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet and loyal little pup! Such a fun outfit for running around town. And I have to tell you, Bella... you have THE cutest hair around!!! ~Sarah of Sarah Hulbert Style
ReplyDeleteNo matter how old, young, fat, thin, etc you are happiness and confidence are two things without which even the most expensive outfit looks ill-fitting.
ReplyDeleteGet used to the fact that you're going to look different as you get older and just think of it as a chance to style somebody new - that just happens to be you. ;-)
PS Doggies are the ultimate accessory!
Jeans an t-shirts are totally stylish, especially when you dress them up with special accessories like you did :)
ReplyDeleteGreat quote and one to live by. No matter how you feel, the outfit and you are looking sharp from here. I'm lusting after the white loafers.
ReplyDeleteWe all have those days, but aren't so fortunate to look as amazing as you do even so! I love how you take heart in your joyful companion, and that is an amazing necklace. The bottom-right photo is priceless. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so unique, many younger people must be envious on you, Your style shows your freedom - is there anything more important - yet just few people posess it.
ReplyDeleteStarting fitness program is never late, specially not at 47!
I adore your blog which made me much braver to undertake positively my age!
This aztec pattern is amazing!! Love your styling.
ReplyDeleteLazy outfit or not... You look fab and gorgeous bella and yes the necklace is a statements piece...nothing beats the touch of a special accessory...
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous babe!!!

I think you look fabulous!!! I wish I had the proportions to wear jeggings (if only "orange on toothpicks" was a viable style look)
ReplyDeleteAnd you're accessorized with an ADORABLE dog!!!
That is one awesome necklace, and a companion with quite a personality!
ReplyDeleteAs I get older, I realize more and more that our outfits are not just about looking slim and trendy. They are extensions of our character and should speak volumes on who we are/what we are feeling that day without a word. But I hear you about the "first world problems." I am busy with discussions on a non-profit that hopes to benefit the other world we all don't live in. Really quite sobering when we are here discussing accessories.
Anyway, you look great! Enjoy the little pet. -- J xxx

You look great! You really do! I myself, however, have been feeling that I need to hit the gym with a plan, and so I have. Yesterday did a body pump class and tonight plan to swim with hubby. Fun! And oooooooh I love the doggie picture! What a cutie!

man I'm such a slow commenter aren't I?! I love how you always find poignant words to go with your posts, you always have such original thoughts, something I greatly admire. And BTW that last jewellery post of mine, was the stuff on my watchlist that I couldn't buy. As you, said, oh! for a disposable income!!
ReplyDeleteAw I like this "pedestrian" you! Definitely an outfit I'd wear. Great quote about the company you keep, and you're keeping some adorable company :)
ReplyDeleteAdorable both of you! And I love the color of that fence bac
