Outfit Post: Garage #Plaid

You know what they say: if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. So today, on a rainy day in Seattle, I joined them. Basically I'm grunged out- long sleeve layered under a rock t-shirt, rainboots, and the pre-requisite plaid. This is me, disguised as a native. Only nobody really dresses like this anymore. I am referencing the grunge era of the late '90s.

No matter, I got a handful of smiles, and a few compliments. I guess people in Seattle really like their plaid.

  1. Ha! Well done - you look straight out of "Singles" (that movie does not hold up well, style-wise). I love the plaid and can't wait to unpack my fall/winter stuff.

  5. My husband up until this year dressed grunge. That was because he hated shopping for new clothes, so he still had clothes from the 90s. When he lost a lot of weight just recently (getting sick, healing, then working out), he started shopping for new clothes. Now, Old Navy's prep replaced the oh so cool grunge look he had, sadly.

You're totally right though. Nobody ACTUALLY dresses like the 90s. That would've been like a slightly frumpy but don't give a crap look. Kids today have the idealized 90s look on their bodies.

  7. If Seattle is anything like here, and I suspect there are many similarities, your style trajectory is on a whole different level than most. I love this outfit, especially the socks and rainboots.

  11. Your updated grunge look is so cool. I tend to stay away from plaid because of the early 90s, ha ha! Do you have time to join Adrienne and me for "How I Wear My: Animal Print"? Come on! Put on a leopard swing coat and join us. Please! XO, Jill

  13. You look rock-chick-cool, but it's your t-shirt I'm really wanting! I rarely wear tartan myself but you've updated the grunge look beautifully. xxxx

  14. I LIKE your look, but I'm a Seattle native, so I guess that explains it.

  15. You are giving Grunge a modern spin, but still staying true to the plaid, which always looks great on you. I love the t-shirt! Personally, I'm hoping the 90's never come back again as far as fashion goes.

  16. Joan Jett and The Runaways, and Suzi Quatro, were my style icons as a teenager. I love your look and if I had the figure for it I would wear it head to toe tomorrow ;-)

  17. I love this look! If I had my way I'd find a way to channel this into a more professional, graduate student look! Maybe I should start thinking of ideas. After all, grunge is the beat of my heart.
