Outfit Post: Vintage Love, Biker Babe

#SECONDHANDFIRST: This Biker Babe is 99.99% thrifted + 100% bad-ass.

THAT OL' BLACK MAGIC? I'm not sure what the heck happened, but everything changed the moment I put on this vintage black leather biker jacket by Drag Specialties. Personally, I'm not a black leather (or biker) chick- leather is too slick for me- I'm a warm and fuzzy type- I like velvet, suede, corduroy,  you get the picture, don't you? I AM SOFT. There's not a bit of hard-core, or whiff of edge to me, so biker jackets, while I love the look on others, just don't feel like ME. And leather, well, let's just say I'm more Richie Cunningham than the Fonz.

Front, Back and Center: Bad-ilicious Biker Black Leather with the Fun Factor of FRINGE.

BUT THIS COAT? ALL BETS ARE OFF. What wowed me wasn't the perfect/mint condition it's in- nor the gorgeous supple (yet road ready) leather- what caught my eye, and stole my heart WAS THE FRINGE. All sorts of sassy fringe travels from wrist to wrist by highway of the yoke and shoulders. I slid the jacket on, and felt its panther power.

The coat is cut for a woman (darts for the lady parts), and surprisingly hugs the curves without effort. I love how it even fit my thick waistline. The fringe made me feel every movement, like a rock-n-roll drum beat, I could feel the rhythm while I walked. It was so fun to feel, I even danced while taking this pictures!

FRINGE, WITH BENEFITS.  I felt cool-as-fuck while I cavorted around in its midnight madness. I know what you're thinking, but I'm not going to keep it- as much fun it is to wear, I feel like somebody else in the coat. So, I'm hoping this biker leather treasure finds its soul mate on the road. But wow, what a day! My inner goody-two-shoes for moment felt part Easy Rider, part Marlon Brando, and all sorts of bad-to-the-bone, bad-ilicious, and babe-ilicious.

Now Wearing:
  • vintage black raffia hat, listing soon
  • the Bad-ass Biker jacket by Drag Specialties, available here
  • vintage lace LBD but NFS
  • retro oxford heels by Me Too (a size 5 version here)

A BIG thanks to all who participated in this month's SHOE SHINE! I'm happy to announce that

  1. And may I just say that you are looking "cool-as-fuck" in that bit of fringed leather fabulousness!!! I think biker jackets look best when paired with something soft and girly like that dress (unless you are actually riding a harley). I love wearing leather in the winter because it protects against the wind and cold, and makes me feel kind of badass ;)

  2. Oh, yeah .. the fringe totally makes that jacket. The dress without the jacket .. meh. Add the jacket - vaboom!

  4. Love this jacket. I'm all about the leather jackets and how easily they turn even a lady-like dress into a total biker chic look. The fringe is perfect. - Katy

  5. You had me at "biker". Jackets like these can cross over and appeal to women like you when they deploy a secret weapon -- fringe. As you note, fringe is potent style.

  16. You are the Fonz in this! Wow, that's the kid jacket I dream of finding in the thrift stores. Well done - what a great score!

  17. That jacket is fringe-tastic, baby! I could imagine it topping so many unusual outfits. But I'm kind of warm and fuzzy like you - not sure I would wear a leather jacket like that. At least you got a chance to play in it, though, and let it take you right to the edge of the dark side!

  19. I love a fringe coat, but i can't buy them, too much for me, but they are gorgeous no doubt in my mind -
You made me think of Marlon Brando in what was the name of that movie? Rebel without a cause?

    The dress is divine!

  20. I think you are both bad ass and cuddly! And you look superbly divine in this outfit! I had posted on your FB page that I had the same jacket, but after seeing more pics mine is different, more utilitarian, less fashion-y. Back in the 80s when I bought all of mine they didn't do fashion styles, mainly the common biker type with the exception of coloured ones (still wish I had bought a pink and a red one!) I love my MC's and they are so great in winter -- leather in general -- for keeping out those arctic blasts we keep getting in NY! XXX <3
